In 2025, home exterior siding trends fuse contemporary aestheticism with green concerns. Homeowners want an attractive property that respects the environment. You’ll notice a strong focus nowadays on soothing colours and eco-friendly materials. Wondering how these popular choices can transform your little piece of paradise? Right this way to find out!

House styles

First of all, it’s important to think about how a style will age. Are you going to be just as in love with your choice in a few years? If you’re waffling, pick a look that transcends decades without becoming outdated.

Scandinavian minimalist

This style has already made itself at home in interiors where it’s expressed in various forms – the much-loved Scandinavian kitchen comes to mind. The simple lines and understated colour palette (white, gray, beige) of Nordic design makes it a timeless choice.

Minimalism prevails when it comes to exterior siding, meaning a no-frills façade that gives a home a streamlined appearance. Lastly, the style boasts large windows that let an abundance of natural light shine into rooms.

With its reliance on sustainable materials (wood, steel or even stone), the Scandinavian style will be around for many years to come.

Modern and rustic

Modern aesthetics and rustic charm are both very prevalent in kitchen trends as well as the overall architecture style of present-day homes. The idea is to pair modernity with warm elements. Clapboard siding (a set of horizontal boards partially overlapping one another), for example, can be matched with a solid door made of treated wood (such as ash oak or walnut, sometimes aged or recycled), pendant lighting, brick wall panels, etc.

What’s more, the focus is on subdued and earthy colours – gray, chestnut brown, beige – that blend naturally into the Canadian countryside. Install windows with white or black frames to create an intriguing contrast.

Industrial

Inspired by old factories, the industrial architectural style uses raw materials like concrete and steel. The dominant colours in this style are black, gray and brown, but go ahead and include touches of beige or yellow ochre to soften the overall effect.

Imagine a home façade covered in aged red brick, enhanced by matte-black steel doors and metal-accented windows. Talk about creating a bold aesthetic that’s full of personality!

Coastal

The coastal style has emerged as a real star in 2025 and has all that it takes to completely win us over. It’s showing up in the kitchen and bathroom, and on home façades. Originally a popular pick for seaside homes, it has come home to roost in the city as well.

Its soft and natural shades (pale blue, sand, slate gray, off-white) take us back to hot days at the beach. Opt for a bleached-wood façade or shiplap-type siding (horizontal or vertical panelling), which can withstand the extremes of the Canadian climate.

Have you noticed any signs indicating it’s time to replace your siding (cracks, discolouration, wear)? Are you up-to-date on the latest trends? Whatever your situation, here are the most popular material options in 2025.

Keep in mind that damaged siding must be repaired not simply for aesthetic reasons but also to ensure the energy efficiency within your home. Avoid putting an issue off until it becomes even more serious, like wood rot or water infiltration

Recycled wood

If you’re searching for an eco-friendly and sustainable option suitable for Canada, look no further than recycled wood – oak or pine, for example. Once treated (to resist moisture and insects), this unique patina material has incredible potential.

Its ability to adapt to various styles makes it a leading choice for exteriors. It can be used with natural stone details to create a rustic look and add some warmth to the siding. When combined with modern materials (a steel door or a concrete accent wall), it shows off a very current streamlined character.

Steel

Steel is an exceptional siding, especially in northern climates. It offers significant advantages: it’s resistant to corrosion, weather and humidity, and so keeps its beautiful appearance for decades. On top of that, it’s 100% recyclable and requires little maintenance.

This metal alloy is often chosen by homeowners who want to reduce their carbon footprint.

An eco-friendly home or tiny home built with recycled steel siding or structural elements has exemplary durability.

The popularity of matte black brushed steel exterior siding has skyrocketed since Scandinavian and farmhouse styles have been cropping up everywhere. Add a little extra softness by combining it with light wood accents.

Vinyl

It can be challenging to choose a material because so many factors have to be deliberated at the same time. One important consideration to determine from the onset relates to the cost of exterior siding. Vinyl provides excellent value for your money and checks many boxes: it keeps its appearance without requiring regular painting or treatments, and is so simple to maintain.

While not a new trend by any means, this material is still a favourite go-to in 2025. Available in a range of colours, it easily fits in with current trends.

Mixed siding

Tell us more! Mixed masonry combines the use of several materials. Picture, for example, clapboard siding cohabiting with stone columns and wood detailing.

This approach is often used to replace surfaces that have been battered by bad weather and wear (cracks in walls or parts that have weakened over time).

The idea is to reuse existing materials as much as possible to minimize having to add new resources to the mix. Say a stone column is damaged… it can be partially replaced with concrete or another imitation material, while preserving the overall aesthetic of the façade.

Colour choices

The primary exterior siding colour trends are for the most part comforting shades. The desire to reconnect with nature is emerging both inside and outside the home. This year, you’ll see a lot of green around (light and dark), along with burgundy tones. Special mention goes to the Behr 2025 Colour of the Year: a magnificent ruby red that would be perfect to add depth to any façade.

Sherwin-Williams, global leader in paints and coatings, has a wide range of exterior siding colours so you can single out the colour you want for your property.

This creamy shade would add an undeniable charm to any façade. It would certainly not go unnoticed but you could mix it up with neutral colours and materials, first on the list being wood or stone. Or you could inject just a splash of this colour on your front door. It's a colour that makes the greenery around your home pop.

Off-white

Off-white still makes the list of top neutral colours in 2025. Warmer than pure white, it’s a solid choice to blend with an assortment of architectural styles. Though you may have first seen it fronting a farmhouse aesthetic, it works in nearly any setting.

Sage green is an easy choice for homeowners wanting to add a bit of colour to their property without moving too far away from a natural shade. Light and subtle, it fits in well in both rural and urban landscapes. We predict you’ll be seeing a lot more of this colour!

Wood tones

Oak, walnut and teak are also stellar siding options. Their rich colours go well with stone, steel and aluminum. These species can take top billing on a façade or be used in a more supporting role as discreet accents that highlight a light-coloured siding.

Doors made out of wood are back in. Suffice to say they’re gorgeous and add considerable character to the front of the home.
