A Bright, Modern Apartment

This triplex in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve residential neighbourhood has undergone quite a transformation! The owners wanted to add value to their home and generate income, so they decided to do a basement conversion into an apartment. Needless to say, the project came at the perfect time, in the midst of a housing deficit. So, the Dumont family set out to completely renovate their basement in an extensive transformation covering 1,200 square feet. Given the regulatory requirements and the complexity of the work, the Dumonts called on one of our Verified Contractors for the construction of their brand new apartment. The result: a new, modern, and bright living environment.

The Perfect Kitchen

The apartment now boasts a charming, modern, and expertly designed kitchen. The owners focused on materials that blend well together and bring warmth to the room. The grey quartz central island (Radianz AF953 Asford Fog model) is the focal point of the room with its elegant, classic style. Several white polyester cupboards (Prestolam 7057) have also been installed for extra storage space. The wooden shelves and laminated veneer countertop (K 67 Rumeur-Uniboard) in shades of brown and black blend in perfectly with the surroundings. A beautiful white ceramic kitchen backsplash blends discreetly into the décor. Last but not least, suspended and recessed light fittings were installed to create a welcoming ambiance. Because the ventilation had to be adjusted, the owners used the opportunity to buy a new, powerful, and modern cooker hood to complete the kitchen in their apartment.

A State-of-the-Art Bathroom

The bathroom was a major project. Among other things, part of the raised floor in the old room had to be demolished to gain access for relocating the drains, and a section of the load-bearing wall had to be demolished. The grey ceramic flooring that was laid blends in perfectly with the wood tones of the furniture that was selected. The specialists had to reposition the white inset sink and the corner glass shower. A team of designers helped the Dumont couple decide on a refined style, with a selection of materials in shades of white and grey that echo certain elements (earth, water and sand). A floating vanity lightens the overall effect, adding a soft, aesthetic touch to the décor.

Large Bedroom With Storage Space

The apartment has two bedrooms, one of which is very large. A staircase was removed from the room to optimize the space and fully capitalize on the basement’s natural light. The owners opted for a superb wood imitation vinyl floor that adds extra shine to the white-painted bedroom. The addition of two sliding doors was an essential criterion for the Dumonts. When it comes to renovating basements, storage is an important part of the equation, and is a winning solution for greater freedom of movement.
This basement conversion into an apartment is a great success. All bets are off! How quickly do you think the apartment found a tenant?
