A savvy renovation

For the last few years, the Carlier family has lived in a duplex built in 1915 that’s located in Montréal’s Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood. There’s a cramped, outdated bathroom on the second floor that needs a fresh look. A Renovation Advisor helped the couple select a Verified Contractor from our network. He was attentive to what they wanted and transformed the small room into a beautifully adapted bright bathroom that respects the home’s classic style. The result is simply spectacular and adds some radiance to the property!

Before the renovation

The Carlier couple wanted to modernize this bathroom and make it more functional. Their turnkey project included, among others, removing the ceramic floor, ceiling and bathtub, and completely redoing the plumbing. The contractor switched the location of the bathtub and toilet and did some ventilation work, electrical work and some painting in the 90 ft2 room. Lastly, the owners decided to up the comfort level and have a heated floor installed and bought a white, front-loading, stacked washer and dryer.

After the renovation

Warm wood, posh white

The old, clunky cast iron bathtub was replaced with a sleek freestanding bathtub that harmonizes well with the immaculate white ceramic wall tile. The new natural wood vanity and sink are in the same position as the old unit. We note that textured wood adds a touch of biophilic design to the room that blends well with the purity of white. Smart red accessories were also added to liven up the Carlier’s bathroom. Elegant light fixtures are the final addition to complete the ambient décor.

Added depth effect

The shape of the Carlier family’s bathroom is enhanced by a long mirror that literally transforms the space and adds welcome depth. The mahogany-stained solid wood entry door is now one of the focal points of the room. Its frosted door lets light through while maintaining privacy. The owners chose an understated floor in grey ceramic tile and had a corner glass shower installed with discreet white porcelain tile for the flooring. The Carlier family can now enjoy their brand-new functional and airy space.

“Things started falling into place quickly with this contractor,” said Nadine Champagne, Senior Advisor in RenoAssistance’s renovation division. “I can really feel the sense of accomplishment in this project. I listened carefully to their needs and found the perfect match for them! Result: a smooth process and a gorgeous bathroom that was renovated exactly how the owners wanted!”
